After we got married and had our reception at The Galgorm, I couldn’t wait to get back again. The Resort is beautiful and the grounds are situated along a river, which gives perfect photo opportunities. I started a tradition last year (I’m not sure it’s really a tradition if we’ve only done it twice) where we head to the Galgorm for Valentines Afternoon Tea. The Tea is served in the Conservatory of the main Hotel which looks out onto the river and a resident pianist plays which really adds to the atmosphere. The pianist that played when we were there was incredible, such a beautiful and unique voice, I could have stayed just to listen to her play.
The Galgorm Afternoon Tea never fails to disappoint, with a lovely selection of sandwiches and soup to begin with. The staff were very accommodating to any dietary requests we had (I had already requested them when booking, and it had been noted, so thank you very much Galgorm for being so accommodating. The sandwich selection we had was Cajun Chicken; Smoked Gammon and Cheese; Roasted Red Pepper and Brie and Smoked Salmon, Cucumber and Cream Cheese. These were all delish! especially the Cajun chicken. The soup of the day was carrot and roasted red onion. Now I don’t like onion and will mostly avoid it, however, the taste of the soup was incredible!
Once we were rested after our savory selections, the rest of the afternoon tea arrived and we were in for a treat. The scones at the Galgorm are always amazing, so soft and warm that they just melt in the mouth. Our scone selection was plain and raspberry and white chocolate along with cream and jam.
Next we had Orange and Pomegrante cake which was so light and fluffy; a coconut and passionfruit macaroon and a chocolate, hazelnut and salted caramel tartlet.
By this stage both Adam and I were pretty full, but in true spirit, we powered on to our last plate of deserts, which included a lemon posset (I loved the amount of lemon in this, tarte enough that you know its lemon, but not so tarte that your face says it all!); a heart shaped piece of shortbread and a rose flavored marshmallow.
If you’ve never been for Afternoon Tea and would like to go, definitely consider the The Galgorm Resort and Spa. I will definitely be making a yearly tradition for Valentines.
